A hungry biker went on a 160-mile round trip for a McDonald's Big Mac - but would have spent three times as much on fuel for the journey.

Chris Baker travelled 80 miles for the treat when he became aware the fast food giant had reopened stores for takeaway customers.

He enjoyed the burger and a coffee before travelling the 80 miles from the branch in Bobbing, near Sittingbourne, Kent, back home in Horsham, West Sussex.

It is understood the fuel alone - around £14 - costs around three times as much as a Big Mac meal with coffee. Speaking after travelling the epic distance on Wednesday, Mr Baker told the Sittingbourne News newspaper: "I'm a great Big Mac fan." But locals questioned whether the trip was a "necessary" journey.
