It is being reported in some media outlets that the Argentine is close to agreeing to replace Steve Bruce at St James’ Park should the £300million takeover of the club be confirmed.
Current owner Mike Ashley agreed to sell the club to the Saudi-backed PCP Capital Partners last month. Pochettino has been out of work since being sacked by Tottenham last year after five-and-a-half years at the helm.
According to Spanish publication Todofichajes though, he is edging closer to becoming the Magpies manager, with an agreement between himself and the club “practically closed”.
