United were left frustrated by Ralph Hasenhuttl's side throughout the game with Southampton constantly pressing United's midfielders and causing United's midfield duo of Fred and Matic to recklessly give the ball away.
United conceded as a result of poor midfield play when Southampton won the ball deep in United's defensive territory. The ball fell to Che Adams' whose shot deflected off of Fred past David De Gea into the back of the net.
