Manchester United and Newcastle United are reportedly the closest to signing Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.Nunez, 22, is a man in demand this summer after an impressive campaign which saw him bag 34 goals in all competitions for the Portuguese side.
A number of clubs across Europe are looking to snap him up, but the Red Devils and the Magpies appear to be at the front of the chasing pack.
That's according to Uruguayan journalist Sebastián Giovanelli, who tweeted that the Premier League pair are each bidding for Nunez and are the "closest to signing the attacker at this time".As the world's richest club, Newcastle have money to burn and have identified him as a top target.
That's despite them having signed Chris Wood earlier this year and also nearing a move for Reims frontman Hugo Ekitike.Old Trafford chiefs, meanwhile, are in the market for attacking reinforcements.
