Police in Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca are set to start dishing out 100 euros (£90) fines for anyone not wearing a mask from next week.
Any British tourists caught breaching the new compulsory mask rules will be slapped with an on-the-spot fine from July 20. The Balearic government confirmed on Monday that all holidaymakers and local residents will have to adhere to the coronavirus safety measures which are now in force.
Tourist businesses wanted officials to abandon the plan, saying holidaymakers would be put off coming to the islands if they had to wear masks and claiming there have already been major cancellations.
