Two giraffes left a photographer wincing as they smashed their necks together so hard that cracks could be heard during a rate fight for dominance.

Photographer Paul Mahagi, 39, was amazed, and left flinching, when he stumbled across two of the gentle giants fighting to be alpha male last Saturday.

Armed with a camera, Mr Mahagi snapped away as the giraffe’s necks cracked away during the dramatic battle in Meru County in Kenya, Africa.

The dramatic photos show the animals standing side by side as they smashed their long necks against each other while the sun beat down from above.
