M56 queues after seven-vehicle crash near Wythenshawe

There are queues stretching more than four miles after a seven car pile-up on the M56 during rush hour. The multi-car crash happened on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway in Wythenshawe at around 4.30pm today.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said seven cars were involved in the smash between junction 4 for Wythenshawe and junction 3 for Benchill.

Initial reports indicate that no one has been seriously injured a GMP spokesperson said. Two lanes were closed as highways officers dealt with the aftermath.
