Love Island's Sharon Gaffka has told how she had a cancer scare while her mum was being treated for the illness. The 26-year-old reality star said she discovered a "really painful" lump between her breast and underarm when she was 19.

She told The Sun: "I think I found it pretty much the same time that my mum was finishing her treatment. "So knowing how quickly my mum caught on that she wasn't well, kind of pushed me to go check myself, so I went to a GP pretty quickly."Luckily, former beauty queen Sharon was told her lump was scar tissue. But she now hopes to help remove any stigma around checking your breasts."Had it been something more sinister than it ended up being, I could have been in a lot of trouble because I couldn't spot the signs early," she said.As well as doing her bit to raise breast cancer awareness, Sharon is campaigning to change laws around drink spiking. The star – who was a contestant in the Love Island villa last year – recently shared that in 2020 she was spiked during a lunch out with friends. The star had been out enjoying herself then went to the bathroom and collapsed, unconscious.

Sharon, who believes that she was targeted by a stranger, told The Sun last month: "I was so ashamed about what happened to me that I never intended to speak about it.

There is so much victim shaming and I didn't want other people to judge me."She said she now has a platform and is followed by a lot of young women. As a lot of stories about people being spiked started to emerge, Sharon decided that if she could normalise sharing such stories, "more women might feel empowered to come forward and then we could actually challenge the perpetrators".
