ITV has announced that the summer series of Love Island has been cancelled. Show bosses say the risk of spreading coronavirus is too high and that they have taken the decision to axe it for 2020.

Kevin Lygo, Director of Television at ITV, said that they have looked at ways to make it work but it is not logistically possible to produce in a safe way.

This comes days after he admitted to feeling 'uneasy' with the idea of the islanders in close proximity to one another while the rest of the country is still experiencing lockdown.

The series usually kicks off in June and sees a group of Islanders looking for love move into a Mallorcan villa for a summer of sun, fun and romance.
