Whitney Friedlander Whether it’s because of COVID shutdowns, reboots, spin-offs or a gap between seasons, more and more actors in Emmy-eligible shows are coming to their roles after much delay. While this could create financial or scheduling concerns, it also gives the talent more time to ruminate on the part, new or old.  More often, actors returned to characters they previously inhabited. Alan Cumming, nominated three times for playing the slippery Eli Gold on the CBS drama “The Good Wife,” reprised the role as a guest star for the final season of its spin-off, Paramount+’s “The Good Fight.”  Adam DeVine, who played frequent foil Bumper Allen in the “Pitch Perfect” movies, became the lead of the Peacock spinoff, “Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin.” And Adam Scott, Emmy-nominated for his performance in “Severance” last year, joined other cast members from the Starz comedy “Party Down” for the cater-waiter comedy’s third season, which aired 13 years after the previous season.

Peter Debruge Chief Film Critic Sooner or later, the lead actor of the movie-within-a-movie being made in “A Brighter Tomorrow” jokes, disgruntled director Giovanni (self-referential cornball Nanni Moretti’s latest on-screen avatar) was bound to make a movie that ended with its protagonist’s suicide — the implication being, the world wouldn’t be so surprised to find the helmer putting a noose around his own neck. Well, he does and he doesn’t go that far in a high-concept meta-comedy that presents its director’s personal disillusion with art, love and the state of the world, before becoming a “just kidding” group hug for his fans. That’s a sizable public in Moretti’s native Italy, where this welcome return-to-form has already been a commercial success. The director’s not nearly as big a deal abroad, however, to the extent that few may care whether the Cannes regular (who won the Palme d’Or for “A Son’s Room” in 2001) has got his groove back.

It's as much as he's said since Allen issued a statement to ET via his attorney, in which he vehemently denied the woman's allegations, which included sexual assault and harassment over the course of an 18-month period when she served as his day-to-day manager.The lawsuit came almost exactly two weeks after Allen and his estranged wife, Gale, filed for divorce.

Doe is now suing Allen, as well as her former employer, Wide Open Music and its founder, Ash Bowers.In the civil lawsuit against Allen, Bowers and Wide Open Music, filed in May 11 in Tennessee, Allen is being sued for “sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, sex trafficking and emotional distress; Bowers and Wide Open Music are being sued for gross negligence and participating in a venture engaged in sex trafficking, among other counts,” as per Variety.In a statement to Variety, Allen denies the accusations and claims he had a consensual sexual relationship with his day-to-day manager.“It is deeply troubling and hurtful that someone I counted as one of my closest friends, colleagues and confidants would make allegations that have no truth to them whatsoever,” the musician said in a statement.“I acknowledge that we had a sexual relationship — one that lasted for nearly two years.

A 25-year-old woman who previously worked as Jimmie Allen’s day-to-day manager is suing the country singer for alleged sexual abuse that lasted for a year and half while she was working with him. Allen has denied the allegations, saying he intends "to mount a vigorous defense to her claims." The lawsuit was filed in Tennessee federal court on Thursday, claiming the "Don’t You Wanna Know" singer "manipulated and used his power over Plaintiff’s job to sexually harass and abuse her," according to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital.  After sexually harassing the plaintiff – known only as Jane Doe – for nearly a year, Allen raped her following a dinner they attended after the taping of an "American Idol" episode in March 2021, the documents allege.

Other action has been swift. Allen has been dropped as the commencement speaker for tomorrow’s Delaware State University’s 2023 graduation. A press release from the university said that Allen, a Delaware native, had been replaced as commencement speaker by congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester.
