Get the stories that matter to you sent straight to your inbox with our daily newsletter.A drug trial involving patients and doctors from the region has discovered a “breakthrough” treatment for patients most seriously affected by Covid-19.The Recovery trial - based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital - has been testing a range of potential treatments for the virus since March 2020.A total of 77 people were involved in the trial after doctors visited wards in the hospital and discussed the trial with their patients.And that work has yielded a major discovery, with a drug normally used to treat arthritis found to reduce mortality rates by around one-third when combined with a steroid.The drug also reduces the amount of time that people are forced.
