Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Liz Truss' first speech as PM in jeopardy as 'omen' deluge hits Downing Street

Prime Minister was in jeopardy as an 'omen' deluge forced MPs to scamper inside 11 Downing Street as the lectern was removed from the front of number 10.

With Truss just minutes away from 10 Downing Street, officials moved the lectern away from the famous address as rain battered the street.

Before that, the podium even had a black bin liner popped over the top of it. She promised "spades in the ground" to make sure that people aren't facing rising costs, and said she would "deal" with energy bills.
