Liverpool Council have launched an official inquiry to see if there is a link between the Liverpool’s Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid and the rising impact of coronavirus on the city.
The Reds hosted the La Liga giants on March 15 with Atletico progressing to the next stage of the competition. More than 3,000 Madrid fans travelled to Liverpool despite an acute outbreak of coronavirus having been in the Spanish capital at the time.
And now Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson has commissioned the city's new public health director, Matt Ashton, to conduct a wide-ranging investigation.
