Laura Ashley which really tugged at the heartstrings. After years of profit warnings and uncertainty, the once iconic British label finally succumbed as the Covid crisis hit and was eventually bought by US investment firm Gordon Brothers.
These last few years have been a far cry from Laura Ashley’s idyllic heyday. The designer who began her eponymous venture with her husband Bernard in 1953 at the kitchen table in their London flat, went on to set up base in a Welsh farmhouse and establish a signature homespun prairie-boho look which remains instantly recognisable today.
Generations of women dressed themselves and their children in Laura Ashley’s frilled dresses and decorated their homes in her abundant florals.
