Keeping over-70s in isolation as coronavirus lockdown is eased 'risks social unrest'

An easing of the coronavirus lockdown may be in sight with the Government set to announce plans on Sunday – but the suggestion older people might need to remain isolated for longer has been met with an angry response.

Sir Michael Palin, the former Monty Python star best known these days for his BBC travel documentaries, said age restrictions would be “very difficult and very wrong and very unfair”.

While Baroness Ros Altmann said on Sky’s Sophy Ridge On Sunday that making one rule for over-70s and another rule for younger people would send the message that senior citizens’ lives “don’t count in the same way as others”.
