Dr Hilary Jones has warned of the "stark" statistics for over-70s admitted to hospital with coronavirus. The 66-year-old doctor appeared on Good Morning Britain today as he addressed criticism Health Secretary Matt Hancock had received over guidance to the over-70s in lockdown.

He said: "It was always advice, it was always guidance to the over-70s to protect themselves. "Look, the stark statistics are these - that if you are admitted to hospital with covid-19, your mortality is roughly equivalent to your age. "So if you're over 70, your mortality could be 70% and that is why the government have always said, 'Our guidance is for you to stay at home and stay safe.' "And I think, actually, that was correct.
