Leicester is set to remain in lockdown for another two weeks, Matt Hancock has announced.The Health Secretary told MPs the city, which is the first place in the country to face a local lockdown, will only partially relax some measures.He said in the House of Commons on Thursday (July 16): "At the end of June, we made the decision to close schools and non-essential shops in the city."This was not an easy decision but one we had to take."Mr Hancock added: "I committed to reviewing the measures every two weeks."This afternoon, I held a further meeting with local leaders.
The latest data shows the seven-day infection rate is now 119 cases per 100,000 people."He said it was a positive indicator, but it still remains 'well above the national.
