The 45-year-old even played a pivotal role in their stunning European campaign before Arsenal dashed their dreams.After earning rave reviews during his days with Villarreal, the no-nonsense Argentine had a whole host of suitors around the world - including the Premier League.

However, his opportunity to play in the big-time came crashing down after a bust-up over wages.As revealed by The Mirror, Sorin was on the brink of a move to Bolton Wanderers back in 2006.

The Trotters had just competed in their first ever UEFA Cup campaign under Sam Allardyce, and hopes were high at the Reebok Stadium that the best was still to come.However, Sorin's dream switch to the Premier League never materialised after a row over his salary - and the Villarreal star stormed away from negotiations in a huff and went AWOL.
