Johnstone gym members enjoy fun fundraising workouts

Members of a Johnstone gym dug out their 80s clothes and pyjamas to enjoy some fun fundraising workouts.Venus Gym held a week of fun events to celebrate its third birthday.And they also decided to raise money for Loom Walk in Kilbarchan, a respite centre which is run by Action for Children.Owner Andrea Porter said: “We wanted the money to go to the project in Kilbarchan as it’s a local one.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.“It was our third birthday so we decided to do something different and have some special classes and a birthday party.“We also had some football cards and a lottery.“We raised £370 in just five days and have set up a fundraising page which we hope will make it up to £500.”The gym invited members to make a donation to power hoop in their pyjamas or take part in an 80s Zumba class.

They were also welcome to bring their ‘martian’ – a male partner, brother or uncle – to the all-female gym for a workout.“It was brilliant,” said Andrea. “Our members are fantastic and they always step up when we ask them.“We asked them to pay a donation to take part in one of the special classes which were taking place over and above what we normally offer.“Our birthday was the chance to do something different and mark the occasion.

Our coffee morning was a great success too.”The family-run gym on Floors Street, Johnstone, was established in 2019 and has survived through the various lockdowns of covid.Andrea said: “We were shut down for a long time with covid lockdowns.
