Italy to extend coronavirus lockdown until ‘at least’ April 12

Italy will be locked down until at least April 12 in its fight against the coronavirus, a government minister has said. The country’s death toll today climbed by 812 to 11,591, and it has one of the highest mortality rates in the world.

However, the number of new cases rose by 4,050 – the lowest since March, hitting a total of 101,739. A meeting of the government’s scientific committee recommended extending all containment measures until at least Easter Sunday, April 12, Roberto Speranza said in a statement.
