Tributes have been paid to a former athletics coach and youth worker who is credited with having changed hundreds of children's lives.Granddad Ray Fitzpatrick was a fixture at Stockport Harriers for over three decades.A former lorry driver, mechanic and engineer, he also volunteered at local scout groups and he and his wife of 54 years Winifred fostered dozens of children.He also once made national headlines after protecting renowned long distance runner Zola Budd from protesters at a top race meeting.Ray, also known as Fitzy, died last month at the age of 74 after a short illness.His death is not believed to be related to coronavirus.His friends and family have now paid a moving a tribute saying 'he only ever thought of others' and that.
