New ISIS chief Abdulnasser al-Qirdash has been arrested by Iraqi intelligence officers, according to reports emerging from the country.
Al-Qirdash was reportedly named number two in the terror group following the death of former leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. In a statement, the Iraqi National Intelligence Service, said: "Today, the terrorist named Abdulnasser al-Qirdash, the candidate to succeed the criminal al-Baghdadi, was arrested." The Intelligence Service released a photo of al-Qirdash alongside the announcement, standing alone in a room with his hands by his side.
News outlets have claimed al-Qirdash is the highest ranking Islamic State member to ever be taken into custody in the region.
