New York Times from 1956 to 1965, Gay Talese, 89, is legend in New York City. His article Frank Sinatra has a Cold, penned for Esquire 1966 after many months of shadowing the mercurial singer, is one of the most famous pieces of journalism ever published.

Here, Talese writes to us from home on Manhattan's east side, to give the stories behind his most treasured luxuries. The view I get while riding in my 1957 Triumph (TR-3) white convertible as I travel along the narrow roads up and down the hills of Roxbury, Connecticut, where my wife and I have a second home.

The countryside is beautiful and remote; towering trees shade the land and occasionally a baby bear wanders along the shoulders of the road.
