As a beauty editor, there’s one tweakment that I get asked about more than any other: Botox. Once largely associated with celebrities’ “secret help” – or, if done badly, their frozen faces – the taboo around Botox injections is lifting.

It’s the second most Googled tweakment (after lip fillers), and done well and it can be a quick and barely-perceptible way to just look a little fresher. The basic facts: Botox (botulinum toxin) works by relaxing muscles, binding to where the nerve meets the muscle and blocking the message to move.

It’s most commonly applied to the forehead, frown lines and around the eyes, but Botox can also be used to lift a nose tip, relax a gummy smile, stop a chin dimpling, decrease jaw grinding and treat lip lines.

It can be used on areas on the body, too, to stop excessive sweating. Results kick in anywhere between two days and two weeks, and last around 3-5 months.
