Hundreds of animals including seals and penguins are in need of a new home after a zoo in Devon announced it was closing for good.

The Wild Planet Trust said it could no longer afford to reopen its Living Coasts site in Torquay, Devon, due to the huge cost of the coronavirus lockdown.

It means 44 jobs are likely to be lost, while staff at Paignton Zoo and Newquay Zoo - which are owned by the same trust - are also at risk.

The Devon site was home to a range of animals, including South American fur seals, African penguins, macaroni penguins, sea ducks, pied avocet, redshanks, black-necked stilts, ruffs, and terns.
