Hundreds of people are complaining of a nasty smell of 'rotting flesh' coming from a nearby quarry. More than 800 complaints have been made to Newcastle Borough Council over the stench coming from Walleys Quarry, in Silverdale, near Newcastle under Lyme, The site, which is operated by Red Industries, attracted 222 complaints in the first 18 days of January.
Residents have said the nasty smell is so bad it burns the back of the throat, reports StaffordshireLive. They called for action to be taken to resolve the issue which they say has blighted their lives for the past decade.
Suzi Stringer, a 40-year old resident who lives nearby, said: "On a normal day there is a faint odour like you have left your bin open.
