Fire caused the first ever professional ladies' event at Wentworth to be suspended on Friday. The West Course was evacuated after emergency services were called during the final of the Rose Ladies Series.

The fire had started on nearby Chobham Common and was fanned by strong winds after temperatures had soared across the south of England to over 36 degrees celcius.

Emergency services stepped in to try and control the blaze just off the 10th hole as players and caddies evacuated the course.

Felicity Johnson said: "As were playing the ninth, we could see the smoke in the distance but it seemed to get closer pretty quickly. "It is pretty scary when you suddenly see flames and then hear them.
