Those who qualify for the winter allowance are being told to check their bank statements after the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) admitted it wrongly wrote to 60,000 claimants with the wrong bank account details.
The winter fuel payment is an annual tax-free benefit to help families with heating costs from November each year. The money - which can be anything from £100 to £300 - is automatically paid out to those born on or before October 5, 1954.
