A homeless black man has been shot dead by police in California after reportedly being stopped for jaywalking. Kurt Reinhold suffered fatal gunshot wounds on Wednesday during a confrontation with two Orange County Sheriff's Department deputies.

Officials the 42-year-old dad-of-two had grabbed an officer's gun. Moments earlier he had been heard telling police: "Where did I jaywalk?

Why did you stop me?" Video showed him pushing an officer's hand away, telling him: "Stop touching me." He was tackled to the floor, where a struggle ensued.

The shooting in San Clemente sparked widespread protests over police brutality, with the city council imposing a curfew. A neighbour told the Daily Mail that Mr Reinhold was a "lovely man" and described
