A dog was almost swept to his death in a dam until a heroic man risked his life to save him. Scamp tried to follow his owner across a slippery causeway at Bell Park Dam in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, from one side of a dam to the other but was swept away in the rapids.
After being spun around over and over, the shaken hound climbed to safety onto a rock. James Stewart, 65, saw the incident while out for a walk with his wife Stella, 65.
He raced back to his home looking for a rope and called to his neighbour’s gardener Amos Ndlovu, 35, who was tending to the garden, asking him if he would help him save the dog.
Amos quickly agreed and tied the rope around his waist while James held the other end, and climbed into the freezing flood water.
