A dad has been called a "hero" for jumping into a frozen lake to save his family's beloved pet dog, though the rescue left his wife and stepdaughter in fits of laughter.
Ste and Helen Cotton were out for a walk with their dog Trudy, an 11-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, during the Covid-19 lockdown in Walton Hall Park in Liverpool.
Trudy wandered out onto the ice and made her way to the middle of the lake, where she fell into the frigid water and was unable to pull herself out.
Wearing a t-shirt and jeans, former lifeguard Ste, 48, then waded out into the lake, grabbed the dog and carried her over his shoulder while his family and others looked on and laughed, the Liverpool Echo reports.
