Figures show an extra 7,213 children across Greater Manchester became eligible for free school meals between October and January - a reflection of the true impact of the pandemic on family incomes.

But because the pupil premium funding they are entitled to for 2021-22 was based on the October figures, it means schools across Greater Manchester are missing out on a staggering £10m.

Campaigners say the decision to base the PP funding on the autumn census, rather than this January, was 'sneaked out' in a 'cowardly'
