He spoke out following a gruelling two-day interview process which saw the former leader of South Yorkshire Police (SYP) formally named as Mayor Andy Burnham's preferred candidate, before his choice was ratified by a panel representing all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester on Friday afternoon.

He was unveiled as the new £204,000-a-year chief constable at a press conference later. The father-of-two has vowed to turn around GMP.
