'Game-changer' coronavirus antibody test gets approved – could speed up end of lockdown

A game-changing Covid-19 antibody test kit has reportedly been approved by Public Health England, which could hold the key to getting the country out of the restrictive lockdown.

The Department of Health is understood to be in negotiations with Roche, a Swiss healthcare company, in order to buy millions of kits.

According to The Telegraph, the accuracy of the test was given approval by experts last week. Tonight, Roche said it was now on standby to supply hundreds of thousands of lab tests to the NHS each week.

A Government source told the publication: “We want to get our hands on as many of these as possible.” The Government hopes that an accurate antibody test could hold the key to helping the UK get back to work.
