Tyson Fury proved his superstar status this week as he sold 85,000 tickets in three hours for his Wembley showdown with Dillian Whyte.I have always had a gut feeling that the fans would flock to see the return of the British heavyweight hero after three sensational world title fights against Deontay Wilder. We were proven right and now I’m going to seek permission to extend the capacity for the event to 100,000 for his big homecoming after four years on the road. This happened without the help of Whyte who decided not to attend Tuesday’s launch press conference.I was disappointed that he didn’t show up, but truth be told, and looking at ticket sales, it made little difference.

What we can all look forward to now is a fight that has captured the public’s imagination and in a funny turn of events, Whyte not being there on Tuesday makes their first face-off on fight week even more anticipated.

Only seven weeks to go for that one, I cannot wait.I really believe that this fight could set box office records and if the demand for tickets is anything to go by, it could far exceed my already high expectations. We sold 85,000 tickets in three hours, Ticketmaster had 250,000 enquiries for tickets and at one stage there were 171,000 in the virtual queue.

Tyson’s a superstar, end of story. On the back of what has been a great week for us at Queensberry Promotions, we are now in full planning-mode for other great fights and events for fans to look forward to.
