Man wearing gas mask and holding knife in Inverness street sparks armed police response

A man armed with a knife and wearing a gas mask in an Inverness street has sparked a major emergency service response. The man, clothed in combat gear, was seen climbing out of a flat window on Polvanie View after allegedly setting the property on fire.

It is understood that there are seven police vans alongside two Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) vehicles currently in the area.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang and told how paramedics have now arrived on the scene.It is not yet known whether there have been any other injuries following the incident.Police Scotland and the SFRS have both been contacted for comment.
