Terry de Havilland, cobbler to the stars – the man who kept Bowie, Bolan and Cher in disco-worthy footwear. I spent nearly my entire day’s earnings that day on those shoes, which were £50 (I was too excited and poor to worry why or how these shoes, usually closer to £500, cost so little) and wore them every weekend for years afterwards.
They danced their way around various Soho basement bars, clashing perfectly with gloriously trashy zebra-print carpets. They made every trip down a nigh- bus staircase a dance with death, but I didn’t care.
