White Rabbit, under chef Vladimir Mukhin, is considered one of the world’s best restaurants. The dining room is filled with paintings, lamps and models of white rabbits (some cute, some menacing), which suggests the fairy-tale nature of some of the food (Mukhin has created dishes inspired by Russian fairy tales) and prepares you for the unexpected.
There are sea urchins with sea-buckthorn sorbet and seawater, burnt cabbage with caviar and scallop broth, a kind of Borodinsky-bread pain perdu with sour-cream ice cream and splashes of seawater.Every course took me to Russian forests, fields and coasts, but it was what happened at the end of the meal that made me leave on a high.
