Companies linked to super-rich aristocrats have used taxpayer cash to furlough staff, a Sunday People probe reveals. Four dukes with a combined personal wealth estimated at £1.5billion are connected with firms given support.

And our probe of Government papers found the businesses potentially received a total £455,000 in December. The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme subsidises 80% of a worker’s wage.

The Government publishes details of the bands a company’s monthly handouts fall into – ranging from £1- £10,000 to £100,000,001 and above.

Over £53.8bn has so far been paid to 740,000 firms, including some linked to the Duke of Devonshire, the Duke of Abercorn, the Duke of Beaufort, or the Duke of Richmond and Gordon.
