Two people are seriously ill after being rescued from a flat fire which led to a boy tragically losing his life. The five-year-old child died in hospital shortly before 8am this morning following the blaze in Greenwich, south east London.
A 34-year-old woman and a second boy, aged 14, remain in hospital in a serious condition. The cause of the fire is not yet known, with police saying they are keeping an open mind.
The three people were taken from the inferno by firefighters wearing special breathing equipment who had to climb up to the top floor of a block of maisonettes to save them.
