Chadwick Boseman has received a posthumous Oscar nomination after his tragic death from cancer. The late actor died in August of 2020 at age 43 after a secret four-year battle with colon cancer.

He has been recognised for Best Actor for his final performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. The actor played Levee Green in the movie which focused on Ma Rainey, an influential blues singer and the turbulent recording sessions in the 1920s.

His character’s trumpeter dreams end tragically at the white-owned music label. He is the first Black performer ever nominated posthumously for an Oscar and was nominated alongside Steven Yeun for Minar, Riz Ahmed for Sound of Metal, Anthony Hopkins for The Father and Gary Oldman for the Mank.
