Facebook is launching a massive recruitment drive to build the 'metaverse' - a futuristic new 3D version of the Internet that people can physically enter.It wants to hire 10,000 people across the EU over the next five years to work on the ambitious project.Facebook's Vice President (and former deputy PM) Nick Clegg wrote in a blog post that the company wants online interactions in the metaverse to become like the real world."At its heart is the idea that by creating a greater sense of 'virtual presence', interacting online can become much closer to the experience of interacting in person," he said.Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg describes the metaverse as a place where instead of just watching content passively, "you are in it".
