Emmerdale actor Jay Benedict has died from 'Covid-19 complications'

Actor Jay Benedict has died due to complications arising from a Covid-19 infection. The actor, who appeared in a range of films and TV shows such as Emmerdale and Batman, The Dark Knight Rises, died on Saturday aged 68.

A statement posted on his website said: "It is with profound sorrow that we must announce Jay's death on the 4th of April due to complications arising from a COVID-19 infection." Benedict played Newt's father in Alien sequel Aliens and starred in Emmerdale in 1997, playing businessman Doug Hamilton. "He's probably best known today for his two appearances as John Kieffer - the US Army officer and friend of Christopher Foyle - in Foyle’s War, but in his varied career he has danced with the legendary Zizi Jeanmaire at Le Casino
