Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage (born March 5, 1963), better known by his stage name Joe Exotic, is an American former zoo operator, internet personality, musician, and convicted felon. The former owner and operator of the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park (a.k.a. G. W. Zoo) in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, Maldonado-Passage had claimed to be the most prolific breeder of tigers in the United States. He twice unsuccessfully ran for public office, first for President of the United States in 2016 as an independent, and then for Governor of Oklahoma in 2018 as a Libertarian.

New scripted Tiger King series casts Nicolas Cage as Joe Exotic

In news that is both surprising and also not at all: Nicolas Cage is making his regular televison debut in the role of Tiger King super star, Joe Exotic in an upcoming eight-part scripted series.

According to Variety, the show comes from Dan Lagana, who was the show-runner for other Netflix sensation, American Vandal, and will be produced by Imagine and CBS.

It is based on a Texas Monthly article published in mid 2019 - before the Netflix documentary was released - titled Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild, by Leif Reigstad.
