World Cup may still be eight months away - but for many prestigious countries who haven’t yet been able to book their place at the tournament, last chance saloon arises.

It’ll be four and a half years since the curtain came down on the last World Cup in Russia, which was won by France, when the first ball is kicked in Qatar - in a competition that promises to be unlike any other.The long awaited event will no doubt lead to scenes of drinks being thrown in the air in beer gardens across the country, potentially changed to that of parkas and outdoor heaters as Christmas closes in at the time of kick-off.Despite being the greatest tournament in the world, it will force painful memories on this occasion for some of the eight notable countries who are staring at omission.The current European Champions missed out on the previous World Cup after losing in their qualifying play-off tie against Sweden.
