The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has told an SNP MP that it estimates between 320,000 and 340,000 Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claims will need to be checked for a potential underpayment, potentially worth up to nearly £15,000.
David Linden, SNP MP for Glasgow East, asked the DWP how many individual PIP claims will be reviewed over the course of the Administrative Exercise currently being undertaken in response to a July 2019 Supreme Court decision known as MM.
That decision found that the DWP had not been awarding the correct points to some PIP claimants with mental health conditions who need prompting or social support to engage face-to-face with other people.
