Council leader Elaine Murray has backed union calls for a national policy on workers’ safety during the virus crisis.Three unions which represent most council employees joined forces to urge the Scottish Government and all 32 local authorities to draw up uniform rules on protection at work.Unison, GMB and Unite wrote to the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities and focused on three issues: testing workers for the virus, providing protective equipment and creating a policy for refuse collections.The letter said: “We believe local government workers and those in the third and private sectors delivering services must be protected in terms of their health, both physical and mental.“To date this is not being done anywhere near effectively
