They believe it would be an important symbol at a time when statues of controversial figures from history have led to violent clashes across the UK.A petition created on the 38 Degrees website by Kenneth Cheslett says: “It is particularly pertinent at this moment in time, not only because of her achievements in bringing pleasure to thousands of servicemen during WW2, but because she was such an uncontroversial personality that I cannot imagine anyone objecting.”The world’s biggest music stars paid tribute to the veteran star after she died on Thursday morning, aged 103.
