Thousands of students in England are facing uncertainty over their futures after nearly 40% of A-Level grades were marked down by the regulator.
Exam boards downgraded nearly two in five (39.1%) results - amounting to some 280,000 grades, according to data by Ofqual. Teachers had predicted results for students unable to take their summer exams due to the pandemic.
But many school leavers were left disappointed when their grades were lowered by a computer model designed to standardise grades.
Education Secretary Gavin Williamson announced last-minute changes on Tuesday to allow pupils who want to appeal to use their mock result or sit an exam in the autumn.
