The Poland international netted in his club’s 4-0 victory over Wolfsburg on Friday - their final game of 2021 - to match the incredible feat.
What makes the achievement even more impressive is the reduced size of the Bundesliga, which is made up of 18 teams as opposed to the 20 found in La Liga, the Premier League, Serie A and Ligue 1.
Lewandowski's goal against Wolfsburg saw him break yet another German top-flight record, scoring his 42nd league goal of the year to go one better than the previous milestone set by late German icon Gerd Muller in 1972.
